Question / Problem
How do I set up and operate a T100 Series mechanical time switch?
Common Application / Operating Conditions
Mechanical time switches in the T100 Series are 24-hour timers commonly used for pool pumps, outdoor lighting, HVAC systems, and general load control. They require manual ON/OFF tripper placement to schedule operation cycles and must be wired according to the correct voltage for each model.
Step-by-Step Resolution
Confirm timer operation and verify clock motor movement.
Let the timer run for at least one hour to confirm that the yellow dial advances slowly. You can also look through the inspection hole to verify that the rear gear of the clock motor is rotating. Once movement is confirmed, proceed to Step 2.
Set the current time.
Pull out the yellow timer dial slightly to disengage it from the clock motor. Rotate the dial in either direction until the correct time aligns with the time pointer arrow. Once aligned, release the dial so it slides back into place and re-engages with the motor.
Install ON and OFF trippers.
Install and hand-tighten the ON and OFF trippers at the desired times. Turn the tripper screw no more than one-sixteenth of a turn past hand-tight. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the tripper or the cam.
Add or replace trippers.
Additional trippers can be added to the time switch. Each timer supports up to 12 ON/OFF operations per day, with a minimum of one hour between ON and OFF cycles. Use part number 156T1978A for replacement trippers. The kit includes two brass OFF trippers, one green ON tripper, and one silver ON tripper; however, only the green ON and brass OFF trippers are used with T100 Series time switches.
Operate continuously in manual mode.
To keep the load in a constant state, remove both the ON and OFF trippers and move the manual lever to the desired position. The timer will remain ON or OFF until the lever is manually switched again.
Common Setup & Function Questions
What if the dial is not turning?
Verify that power is present to the timer’s clock motor. If power is present but the motor is not operating, the clock motor may need replacement. Refer to the product label or specification sheet for the correct replacement part number.
Can I manually turn the timer ON or OFF?
You can use the manual lever on the mechanism to toggle the load ON or OFF at any time. The timer will automatically return to its scheduled operation when the next tripper activates.
Why is the timer’s dial time incorrect?
The timer uses a mechanical clock motor powered by line voltage. If power is interrupted, the dial stops moving until power is restored. After a power outage or when the timer has been without power, you will need to rotate the dial to reset the current time before normal operation resumes. This is normal for mechanical timers and does not indicate a fault.
How close can ON and OFF times be set?
Minimum spacing is approximately one hour between ON and OFF operations.
Tips / Additional Notes
- The manual lever moves automatically when the trippers press the cam to turn the load ON or OFF, but you can also move the lever manually to turn the load ON or OFF as needed.
- Ensure trippers are firmly tightened; loose trippers can cause missed cycles.
- For outdoor or damp environments, confirm the enclosure door is fully closed and sealed.
- Disconnect power before servicing or replacing the clock motor. Always verify part compatibility.
- For pool, spa, or HVAC applications, confirm wiring matches both equipment voltage and manufacturer specifications.
- Always ensure the timer’s voltage matches the load rating before installation or replacement.
