Intermatic HB51K outdoor mechanical light sensing plug-in timer.
Question / Problem
How does the HB51K outdoor timer work, and what are the available dial settings?
Answer
The HB51K is an outdoor plug-in timer with a built-in light sensor that automatically detects dusk. The timer uses a simple dial to select the operating mode. When dusk is detected, the timer turns on the connected load and runs it for the duration selected on the dial. The timer provides two grounded receptacle outlets for connecting loads such as landscape lighting or holiday decorations.
Dial Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| 2 HR | Load turns ON at dusk and OFF after 2 hours. |
| 4 HR | Load turns ON at dusk and OFF after 4 hours. |
| 6 HR | Load turns ON at dusk and OFF after 6 hours. |
| 8 HR | Load turns ON at dusk and OFF after 8 hours. |
| DUSK TO DAWN | Load turns ON at dusk and OFF at dawn. |
| ON | Load is always ON regardless of light level. |
To use the timer, plug it into an outdoor grounded outlet, connect the lighting load to one or both receptacles on the timer, and turn the dial to the desired setting. The light sensor detects dusk automatically and activates the load.
Tips / Additional Notes
- The built-in light sensor automatically detects dusk.
- The HB51K is compatible with CFL and LED lighting loads.
- The timer is rated for outdoor use in damp locations and is rainproof. Do not submerge the timer in water.
- The timer includes a 7 in. light-duty cord with a three-prong grounded plug and provides two three-prong grounded receptacle outlets.
- For best results, position the timer so the light sensor is not obstructed by the connected lighting or by nearby artificial light sources. Artificial light on the sensor may prevent it from detecting dusk correctly.
- An LED power indicator on the timer confirms it is receiving power.
